Improving Energy & Infrastructure Performance Across Global Mining Operations
The Challenge
Large mining operations depend on complex and energy-intensive infrastructure, often in locations where power reliability, utility costs, aging equipment, and limited infrastructure can directly affect production.
The organization needed a more strategic approach to evaluating energy and infrastructure opportunities across a diverse global portfolio—one that considered not only potential savings, but also operational reliability, capital requirements, implementation risk, and long-term business value.
The Approach
I worked across corporate and operating teams to evaluate energy and infrastructure performance, identify improvement opportunities, and help translate technical findings into practical investment priorities.
The work included:
Assessing energy and infrastructure challenges across geographically diverse operations
Identifying opportunities to improve energy efficiency, reliability, and operating performance
Evaluating projects from both technical and financial perspectives
Working with engineering, operations, finance, and site leadership to establish priorities
Supporting capital planning and investment decisions
Helping connect corporate objectives with the realities and constraints of individual operating sites
Rather than treating energy as an isolated sustainability initiative, the approach considered energy and infrastructure as fundamental components of operational performance.
The Result
The work helped strengthen the connection between energy strategy, infrastructure planning, and capital decision-making while providing leadership with a clearer basis for evaluating competing investments.
It also demonstrated an important principle that continues to shape my approach today:
The best energy projects don't simply reduce consumption—they improve the performance and resilience of the operation.
